Lookee-here: Officers involved in covering up of the Sam Dubose Case involved in 2010 death

rawstory has the scoop:

Two police officers who corroborated a seemingly false account of the fatal shooting of Samuel DuBose in Cincinnati were previously implicated in the death of an unarmed, hospitalised and mentally ill black man who died after he was “rushed” by a group of seven University of Cincinnati police officers.

Kelly Brinson, a 45-year-old mental health patient at Cincinnati’s University hospital, suffered a psychotic episode on 20 January 2010 and was placed inside a seclusion room at the hospital by UC officers. He was then shocked with a Taser three times by an officer and placed in restraints. The father of one – son Kelly Jr – then suffered a respiratory cardiac arrest and died three days later.

In court documents obtained by the Guardian and filed by Brinson’s family in a civil suit against the UC police and the hospital, all seven officers are accused of using excessive force and “acted with deliberate indifference to the serious medical and security needs of Mr Brinson”.

The documents in Brinson's death names two names of cops who were also involved with covering up the death of Samuel Dubose -- Eric Weibel and Philip Kidd. In 2010, Brinson charged Weibel, Kidd and a group of five other officers while having a mental health crisis, was tasered 3 times by this group of cops and died.

The account in the rawstory article is hard to read. Brinson was shackled and chained all while shouting "slavery is over!" and pleaded with the officers not to be shackled. Rather than show one single fucking ounce of humanity toward this person (not animal), they tasered him three times until he had cardiac arrest and died.

5 years later, Samuel Dubose is dead, one bullet to the back of the head, and Weibel and Kidd are back at their "good cop" ways and covering for their buddy, corroborating Officer Tensing's report that he was dragged on July 19, right before his decision to put a hole through the head of an innocent person.

Why these cops were not brought up on charges, disbarred from police work, and made social pariahs 5 years ago with the death of Brinson is anyone's guess. Not any more. These bastard "good cops" need to be held just as accountable as the "bad" ones.

UC police need a reorganization like now.
