Wishing the Queen pain in death makes us look like a bunch of hypocritical hacks who lack empathy

Just gonna say it, the diary on the rec list currently makes us look like a bunch of fucking assholes. I understand that it was a professor who originally tweeted the sentiment, a professor who was personally affected by imperial britain’s inhumane and genocidal goals. Wishing the queen a painful death on the occassion of her funeral is in absolutely bad taste. Dkos amplifying that message at a time when most of britain and quite a lot of the world is in mourning of QE II makes us look like a bunch of sociopaths to the rest of the world, to be honest. I was disgusted by the tweet, and I wont link it nor elevate it, but I can at least understand where the author of the tweet was coming from. I think it was kind of irresponsible to go that inflammatory over it, but I can at least understand her feelings.

What I fail to understand is dailykos user taking it upon themselves to 1) agree with the message (not that the british empire was bad or if the commonwealth was built on the backs of oppressed minorities, but that the queen should have died in agony for it), and 2) fucking amplify it. Its really, really, really not a good look for us.

Discussions of the royal families ill begotten gains are beside the point — we are NOT republicans. We do not wish people pain upon death. We do not wish people died in agony. Its just not what we do, and when we do it it makes us look just as fucking bad as the Q-nuts we so often deride.

I’m saying this for me as much as anyone else (because I celebrated Ken Starr’s death and felt disgusting afterward), we are better than that.

At least I would like to hope so.

edit: tried to make where the original sentiment came from less ambiguous. There were two professors, one who wrote the tweet, and another who posted the diary about the series of tweets, thus amplifying the message (h/t Darmok. Shaka, when the walls fell)
