So I haven’t been watching a lot of cable news lately on the advice from my counselor. She said to go slow and not completely cut myself off, but I did anyway. The exhaustion from watching nothing but “Democrats are going to lose” was really, really getting to me. Over the past couple of days I sunk myself into my writing (I am writing a dystopian sci-fi novel called 2036, which is sort of a sequel to 1984. If you’re curious, check out my comment history) and got away from the midterms and the horserace. Gotta say, shit felt AWESOME. A weekend getting high, watching Spongebob, and writing a novel I have been thinking about for well over a year was a boon to my mood.
Fucking stupidly today, I turn on MSNBC wanting to catch up on the shit I missed on my hiatus. I did it at first this morning, early, when my wife got up and got ready for work. Morning Joe was on, and generally, I kinda like Joe, I think they have fairly smart guests, smart news analysis and whatnot. I used to absolutely despise Joe Scarborough, but over the years my opinion has drifted a bit on his show. I have actually found myself able to stand it for more than five minutes on numerous occasions, especially during the Trump era. But Jesus god in heaven this morning it was a cacophony of “DEMS ARE GONNA LOSE, SO OUT OF TOUCH!”
I shut it off and started writing. After a while, I needed a break (I am writing a particularly dramatic scene of a north korean style funeral for a character in my book called the Demagogue, bet you can guess who that is) and decided once again to turn on MSNBC, thinking maybe they had cooled their fucking jets with that shit.
Oh, heeeeeeellll no they didn’t, and holy shit I just heard something on Katy Tur Reports that made me see FUCKING RED. I tuned into the middle of a generic segment of Katy talking to random voters on the street, talking about how they “voted on the economy (wink wink)”, and she segued into a segment with Steve Kornacki and his bullshit book of bland undergrad level observations of political history during the late Jimmy Carter years, and I hear them DARE fucking make the comparison to the economy under Carter and the economy under Biden.
I see you fucking assholes. You ALREADY trying to fucking Carter Biden you pieces of shit? Licking your chops to strangle his fucking presidency IN ITS CRIB on shit he can’t even help. Geopolitics shit. What the FUCK can Biden do about supply chain issues that originated during the Trump administration due to our piss poor response to COVID, or gas prices going sky high because Russia happened to be an asshole and invade Ukraine. What can he do about Trump-friendly OPEC deciding that right now, its about time to shut off the gas. THEY ARE ALREADY TRYING TO CARTER BIDEN. You are CARRYING OPECs and TRUMPs water goddamnit!
It should be absolutely incumbent on the media to explain the geopolitical and historical context to the inflation were currently seeing in the economy. IT IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY AS THE MEDIA TO DO SO, and instead what I see is the media “on our side” fucking shit up and ripping context out to make a disgusting Trumpy point.
I am so done with MSNBC. Rachel’s on once a week. Alex Wagner just doesn’t even come close to filling her shoes. L O’D is still okay, but good lord Stephanie Ruhle is awful for the 11th hour. Their primetime lineup is absolutely in fucking shambles, and now their daytime news crew is palling around with fox news talking points. Im done. Im fucking done.
Here is where I’ll get my political news. And direct from a source. I am sick of having my opinions spoon fed to me by these assholes. If any time ORIGINAL THOUGHT is needed, its right fucking now.
