Alright, I know what I am about to say is cope of the highest order. No way that anyone who hasn’t just had their party absolutely shellacked in the last election says anything like this, but I can’t stand being this grim about the country’s outlook. Thinking that everything is over leads to nihilism in my opinion, and when you think nothing matters you’ve already lost and ceded power to them. So here, puff on some good shit with me and relax a bit y’all.
Being in the opposition has its advantages
America blames EVERYTHING that happens on the president, and, therefore, blames everything on the president’s party. Everything from Jan 2025 to Jan 2029 is wholly republicans doing. They OWN this. They made specific promises about lowering prices and making our economy work better, starting in January, in fact, starting Wednesday night, everything bad that happens, especially if it causes economic hardship to their core constituencies, they own. Doesn’t matter the nuance or complexity. Its their fault. Its our job to say so.
Trump being an incompetent boob works in our favor
Lets admit it, the man couldn’t lead his way out of a wet paper bag, and its clear that Republicans will follow him all the way to hell on his word. Terrible news for the country for the next four years. I see a double edged sword. While his terrible decisions will surely hurt literally everyone, everything that he does will be 1) under a microscope in the media and 2) subject to all sorts of scrutiny. His first term was a total disaster. We know that people are going to be pissed and looking for an alternative and its up to us to offer one.
Trump is too stupid to be Hitler.
His party will be in shambles in months (because they will follow him anywhere without question or fail). The man’s impulses outside of campaigning are terrible. Sure, once again we will be the laughing stock of the world, absolutely. Our credibility was tarnished forever on November 5th anyway so our credibility on the world stage is toast anyway. All the while, it will becoming increasingly clear that Democrats are the smartest alternative available. I believe this will start as soon as the midterms. No way people will be happy enough to put Republicans back in power.
Trump and his party are dangerous, but they are already at each other’s throats.
Reports started coming out literally a day after the election that the party is nowhere near unified, in fact, I’d say things are pretty bad over there internally. Meanwhile, yes, we will be in the woods for months, we will come back stronger. Trust about that. We will get to the bottom of what happened, the failure points, and we will fix them. But honestly, not sure it even matters. Once its clear how bad Trump bungles everything again, popular opinion will swing against him and his cronies. We could be the dumbest people in the world, once Trumps tariffs hit and the Nintendo Switch 2 is $599 not $399 and TVs are hundreds of dollars more expensive, people will be pissed no matter how much propaganda they put out there.
After the loss, the wind will be at our backs.
For the rest of the cycle we will be hungry for the win. Negativity motivates the hell out of people. Sure, we were excited for this election, but as Wednesday proves excitement doesn’t produce results electorally. What motivates people is pain, and unfortunately there will be plenty of that.
Mass deportation will be a very unpopular program, taking peoples rights is a HUGE mistake.
These fools are already talking about denaturalizing people and taking away birthright citizenship after the fact. That is the most foolhardy plan I have ever heard, and once the cameras come on and people (even kids) are being hurt, killed, mistreated etc the media will pillory the Trump administration endlessly. Remember the last time they locked kids in cages? It’ll be that times 10. The people they deport will have family and friends who will feel wronged and betrayed. No way people accept that.
Trying to become a dictator publicly will be an even bigger mistake.
Sure, people voted for him now. I think most independents were willing to ignore his worst authoritarian tendencies because he promised to fix the economy. Once its clear that tariffs cause the price of nearly all consumer goods to sky rocket, people will be thirsty for change. Any story about him grabbing power for himself, especially near the end of his cycle, will kill him. Its one thing to say that shit while on the other hand promising voters the sky and the moon and the sun, its another thing to take real steps while historically unpopular. He wouldn’t be able to overcome the popular movement that would spin out of that anger.
People will hurt, but America will stand (in my humble opinion)
I don’t think there is any need for garment rending for very long. We are hurting now, sure, but eventually the pendulum will swing back to us hard. Once Americans realize they’ve been duped, his whole career will be destroyed.
Not sure if this helps anybody, but slowing down and thinking about these small silver linings have calmed me down a bit. There will be pain, but its not like there isn’t upsides.
